China's president urges Putin to start peace talks with Ukraine.

Recently china's president, Xi Jinping has issued a warning to Russia to not use nuclear weaponry in Ukraine which they have been invading since February. Xi also urged a German chancellor to push for peace talks. Even though china didn't outright criticize Russia directly or ask for them to withdraw from the war, the statement is regarded as the biggest rebuke to Kremlin yet. According to the German delegation Xi said that Russia's invasion of Ukraine is threatening "the rules-based global order".  China's statement could be a big step towards soothing their relationship with the outside world after the COVID-19 pandemic. The statement could also be a big hit towards Putin's already low approval ratings, because even his most powerful supporter is turning against him.e Even though china doesn't support the wests involvement in the war they want it to end as much as them.

Nord stream gas pipeline sabotage

On the 26th of September danish police discovered two ruptures in the Nord stream pipeline connecting Germany to Russia. There have also been discovered two additional holes by swedish officials. The attacks seem to be planned and an act of sabotage. The perpetrator have yet to be found but there is an ongoing investigation to find them. Kremlin spokesperson says that the attacks were set up with the intention of blaming Russia. The explosion caused the releasing of huge amounts of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. The news of the explosion have caused, as every piece of news seems to do these days, rising tensions between Russia and the west. Fact of the matter is that the sabotage will leave a lot of people without gas. The culprit must have been very powerful people with a lot of resources, to be able to attack the world's largest gas pipeline, causing the ceasing of gas supply for millions of people. That fact must mean that it wasn't a private venture, but it was plan...

Boat accident kills 76 people in Nigeria

This week following Nigeria's biggest flood in over a decade, a boat boarded with women and children trying to get to safety from the rising waters, capsized. The accident left 76 out of 85 people on board the boat, dead. Since the flood, caused by the overflowing of the Niger river began, around 300 people have died and around 100,000 have been left without homes. Relatives of the victims can't even bury their bodies because there is no dry areas left near. This is obviously very sad and shocking, but in my opinion it is a sign of a larger problem, that is global warming. The amount of extreme, supposed once in a lifetime kind of weather catastrophies in the last couple years is staggering. The floods will cause Nigeria to have food shortages, when they were already struggling with malnourishment and hunger among their population. The European union has provided Nigeria with 80,000€ of financial relief, wich probably won't be enough to cover a fraction of the damages caus...

Iranian protests

Demonstrations continue in Iran following the arrest and subsequent death of Mahsa Amini, by the hands of Iran's "moral police", for not wearing her hijab properly, on September 16th. It's reported that at least 41 people died in the protests, security forces have fired live rounds at the protestors and were met with rocks being thrown at them, and their cars being torched. The government attempted to stop the spread of information about the protests by having internet blackouts. Countries around the world have criticized the Iranian government for it's policies and response to the protests. Hopefully the protests continue and can bring meaningful change in terms of womens rights in Iran. The brutal attempts at silencing the demonstrations causes more support internationaly for the struggles of Iranian women. Protests in support of the cause have been held all around the world. The protests sparked a conversation about women's rights all around the world and a...

Russian partial mobilisation

On the 21st of September, Vladimir Putin announced partial military mobilisation in an effort to aid the invasion of Ukraine with new soldiers. The military draft ,according to reports, was not partial in some regions. The draft was supposed to target men with preexisting military experience, but in reality notices were handed to most men able to serve. The draft also unfairly targets ethnic minorities. This action shows the desperation of the Russian government, to win a war that was supposed to be easy. After 210 days of the invasion, with no clear sign of winning, Putin announces a draft, aiming to get 300,000 new soldiers to Ukraine. The mobilisation is causing countywide protests and can lead to even more dislike for the president, which can cause an effort to strip him of his power. The draft targeting ethnic minorities is a clear effort of the government to get rid of groups opposing power and signifies an over-reliance on minorities to win Russian wars. The mobilisation can...

Movies in the 1960s

The 60s were a time period in wich a lot of the most popular movies were fiction. Great examples of that are: Psycho, 2001: A Space Odyssey. Psycho is a horror film that pioneers the so called "slasher" genre wich are movies in wich the main antagonist is a mysterious serial killer. It follows a woman named Marion that finds herself at a motel run by Norman Bates, she is invited to dine with him and after her meal she overhears Norman arguing with his mother about her pressence. Marion is killed while taking a shower shortly after, by a figure wearing a dress. There are two more killed, before Lila, the Sister of Marion discovers that Norman mother has been dead for ten years and he keeps her mumified body in his cellar. Norman tries to kill Lila but fails and it is reaveled that he is the murderer, he dresses up in his mothers clothes because she has become his second personalisty. The movie is widley celebrated and is considered to be one of the best horrors of all time. 2...

Cinema in the 50s

The 1950s were the start of a lot of social movements and in this decade it started to be more acceptable to discuss diffrent issues in media. Great examples of that are movies 12 Angry Men and Rebel Without A Cause. 12 Angry Men tells a story of a jury of 12 Men as they discuss the case of an 18-year Old who is acussed of stabing his father to death. Their verdict must unanimous, if the teenager is found not guilty he is free to live his life, if he is found guilty he will be executed. At first the decission seems obvious, The neighbours of the teen claim to have heard him killing his father and  seen threatening him with a switchblade of the same kind as the murder weapon. The jurors argue about the case because one of them belives there is reasonable doubt for if the boy did it. Thanks to a more in depth look at the evidence by the jurors, the 18-year Old is found not guilty by unanimous vote. The film discusses social issues like poverty and abuse. Rebel Without A Cause i...
